welcome
At FIAH, our mission is to provide support and resources to homeless children, empowering them to build brighter futures. Through a range of projects, workshops, mentorship programs, and skills development initiatives, we aim to address the multifaceted challenges faced by vulnerable children.
Our projects are designed to uplift and empower children, specifically through early childhood development. From educational workshops to recreational activities, we strive to create a supportive and nurturing environment where children can thrive.
In addition to our core programs, FIAH is proud to partner with organizations such as KidsCare, Rock of Hope and Dimphonyana tsa Lapeng to expand our impact and reach even more children in need. Together, we are working towards a future where every child has a safe place to call home and the opportunity to thrive.
Together, we can amplify hope, inspire change, and build a brighter future for all.
Our Vision
A Brighter Future for Children.
We are dedicated to creating a compassionate and inclusive community where children are valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. We aspire to create a global community where every child and young person feels supported and receives assistance whenever they need it. Through our commitment to shelter, education, and support services, we strive to break the cycle of homelessness and build a foundation for a brighter future for every child.
Our Mission
FIAH is a non-profit organisation that advocates for the rights of abused, abandoned and neglected children, with a focus on those affected by homelessness and extreme poverty. When children live in the densely populated industrial areas and ‘squatter camps’ around the country, they are not only exposed to the ravages of poverty but also the horrors of violence and murder which in many cases leave them homeless and orphaned. With our mission, we believe that every child has the right to feel safe, loved and able to reach their full God-given potential, within society.
We aim to create a network of support that uplifts and empowers homeless children, guiding them toward a future filled with hope, opportunity, and possibility by fostering partnerships with businesses and community leaders.
Our Values
- We stand together.
- We persist.
- We are faith driven.

- We are community oriented.

Reality in South Africa
Our focus at FIAH is dedicated to addressing the hardships faced and the effect thereof on society. Homelessness is a worldwide issue leaving South Africa in the top 10.
Research reveals alarming statistics, with over 1.5 million people enduring homelessness in South Africa, including a significant number of children. According to a study conducted by HSRCI, the estimated count of homeless children ranges between 100,000 to 200,000.
Further studies conducted in Pretoria, South Africa, shed light on the demographics of street children. The average age of respondents in one study ranged from 13 to 14 years old. Similarly, another study highlighted that street children in South Africa typically fall between the ages of 7 and 18, with the majority falling within the 13 to 16 age bracket.
Homelessness in South Africa dates back to the apartheid period. Increasing unemployment, lack of affordable housing, social disintegration, and social and economic policies have all been identified as contributing factors to the issue.
Challenges faced by homeless individuals
The primary challenge faced by individuals experiencing homelessness revolves around fulfilling fundamental human needs such as:
- Shelter, warmth, and safety
- Difficulties with privacy, especially during sleep, safeguarding bedding, clothing, and possessions
- Maintaining hygiene and access to sanitary facilities
- Managing the cleaning and drying of clothes
- Acquiring, preparing, and storing food
- Maintaining connections without a permanent location or mailing address
- Dealing with hostility
Homeless individuals encounter numerous challenges beyond the absence of a secure and appropriate residence. They frequently experience various social disadvantages, including limited access to both private and public services, as well as essential necessities:
- Limited access to healthcare and dental services
- Restricted access to education
- Heightened risk of experiencing violence and abuse
- Facing societal rejection or discrimination
- Disconnection from mainstream social relationships
- Being overlooked for employment opportunities
- Limited access to banking services
- Restricted access to communication technology
